Our Story

KOAMANA

All Hawaiian Men coming to Hawaii were superior navigators, warriors and fishermen. The “Maui” fish hook or Makau so impressed Capt. James Cook by the capabilities of what Hawaiian fishermen created and the strength and neatness of the fishhooks they fashioned from natural materials that he made note of it: “Considering the materials of which these hooks are made … we found them upon trial, much superior to our own.”

Next to the fish hook 2 identical symbols, representing a fern called the kupukupu the name translates to surge forth, it is one of the first living symbol that appears after a fresh lave flow cools down. It is also a symbol of life.

The arrow pointing forward is representative of an ihe or spear. Pointing in this direction is a symbol of moving forward, ready for the battle.
